Strawberry Season, in Glasses

May 19. Punch posted a strawberry-cocktail roundup. Five recipes, photographed clean, listed with specificity. The piece does not claim innovation. It claims utility.

The hook is timing. Strawberries are at peak from late April through June in most Northern Hemisphere markets. The fruit shows up in bar programs because it's cheap, available, and customers order it. Punch's angle is: here are the variants worth making at home, categorized by method.

Two of the five hold up under the forensic lens. The strawberry Daiquiri uses hulled fruit muddled with lime and simple syrup, strained over crushed ice. The texture is right because the dilution is built in. The strawberry Negroni substitutes strawberry-infused Campari for standard. The bitterness balances the fruit without sweetening the drink. Both recipes scale to what a home bar can execute without a centrifuge.

The other three fall into the category of "bar program filler." A Miami Vice is a frozen daiquiri layered with a piña colada. The visual is the product. The drink underneath is two mediocre frozen cocktails stacked. A strawberry Bellini is prosecco with purée. The strawberry Margarita is a Margarita with strawberry purée blended in. Neither innovates on structure.
