Tarkett's Lino Style: linoleum that looks like stone

Linoleum never left contract interiors. Hospitals, schools, the occasional hotel corridor. It's durable, biodegradable, comes from linseed oil and cork dust. The aesthetic problem has always been that it reads institutional. Tarkett's update is about pattern grain, not color loudness. The collection pulls from marble veining and limestone texture, printed onto rolls that install like any other sheet good.

The forensic detail: this is marmoleum's quieter cousin. Where Forbo's Marmoleum leans into retro brights and art-school energy, Lino Style skews neutral and stone-adjacent. Grays, taupes, off-whites. The kind of palette that works in a Lemaire showroom or a Kinfolk-approved café. It's linoleum for people who would never say the word linoleum.

The angle here is material reputational rehab. Linoleum spent decades as the cheap option, the thing you rip out to expose hardwood. Now it's back as the anti-luxury-vinyl play. Real material, low VOC, ages instead of peeling. Tarkett is betting that designers tired of wide-plank everything will take a second look at a roll good that doesn't try to be wood.

Lino Style launches this month through contract channels. Residential availability unclear, but the pattern is readable: linoleum positioning as the thinking person's flooring. Not trendy. Just there when tile feels too cold and wood feels too done.
